Personal Growth and Creativity: My Journey to Self-Rediscovery

So here we go… first blog post! I’m Emily, and I’m on a journey to rediscover a few parts of myself that have gotten lost in time. I’m in my early 30s, and I live in Nevada with my husband, our 2 kids, and our 2 dogs. Our daughter is a brand new teenager. Our son is only a few years behind her. My kids are getting older and finding their independence. So, I’m giving myself space for personal growth and to explore my creativity.

My vision for this blog is to use it as my rediscovery journal. I see this as a place to share my experience and connect with others who might relate.

My music journey

Lately, I’ve been learning guitar, harmonica, musical spoons, and even the didgeridoo. It’s definitely a lot to take on at once. I’m a bit all over the place deciding where to focus my energy. But honestly, I’m loving every minute of it. I’m choosing to embrace the chaos as long as I can keep moving forward and stay motivated. However, I don’t expect speedy results until I get my schedule more structured.

My biggest goal with music right now is to put hands on each instrument for at LEAST 10 minutes a day. That will usually lead to longer than 10 minute sessions, but the getting started is what is hardest. I know I can commit to 10 minutes, so that’s a strict rule for myself.

I’ve been making sure I keep a notebook and pencil with me at all times. The creative ideas come at unexpected times, so I like to make sure I can jot down my thoughts at all times.

Getting Back Into Running

I just started running again, and for the first time in my life, I think I’m actually doing it right. A few small changes to my technique have made it feel easier than ever, even though I’m starting over as a complete beginner. I’m doing a program on the Peloton app called “You Can Run 5k,” and I felt so amazing after my first run. I am LOVING it so far.

Thanks for joining me on Day One. I’m excited to see where this leads and to have a place to share the real ups and downs along the way. Click here to if you’d like to learn more about me.
